Very nice game! Exactly the kind of game I love!
Old school sensibilities, I think this is actually better than VVVVVVV!
It's kind of reminiscent of a classic old game called "Montezuma's
Revenge", even the sound f/x are similar!
I really like your design style! I'm donating $5.00 now!
Are there any keyboard commands to, for instance, exit the game
or do other things? Redefining keys would be nice too.
Keep up the great work! P.S. - Thanks for supporting Linux!

I saw this game on the home page of itch.io and wondered how could it be. Seemingly simple game like that highlighted on home page? But in simplicity is beauty. This game is incredible fun!

On MacOS, I needed to go to Library > Application Support > Godot > app_userdata and delete the Mr. Platformer folder inside.

best game I've played in a long time!

Básico, pero muy divertido :)

Love Terry Cavanagh's games. VVVVVV being my favourite. I love Super Hexagon but I'm too bad at it. ^^ This one was fun. Thanks for a new gaming experience again, Terry.

the game is funny and peculiary hard,

I was surprised

I thought it was gonna be a simple platformer, but then I kept playing, and now im confused yet intrigued.

It reminded me of Pitfall from Atari 2600 and Atari in general.

Loved this one! If you like this game be sure to try Kero Blaster by Studio Pixel, gameplay is more like Megaman but trust me they're very thematically similar games.

reminds me of atari, good game!!

It has a simple Atari-like look, and when I first played it, I thought it was a platformer where you have to earn a high score to get to the finish line!

But as I played it over and over again, I gradually realized the truth, and by the end of the game, I felt like I was watching a suspenseful story with my heart pounding.

Also, in the beginning of the game, I was trying to get a high score as much as possible, but in the middle of the game, I was ignoring the score items in order to clear the game as quickly as possible.

However, towards the end of the game, the placement of the score items was very elaborate, and I thought that collecting all of them would clear the author's challenge to the skill game, so I played to score as much as I could.

The last part of Cave was difficult but when I got all the items it was a great feeling!

my play through

nuh uh

this has to be your first game then.

I enjoyed playing all 40 levels in the game and calculated the max highscore to a little over 11,260 even though my personal best was only 1,310. I found the jungle theme to be the easiest and the desert theme to be the hardest.

The aesthetic stays super true to the original Atari games! Love everything from art, to physics, to sound! It's a good mixture of Pitfall, Montezuma and Jungle Hunt, as well as a sound effect from Adventure (door unlock sound) for good measure. 10/10 in my book!

i'd put a thumbs up emoji if I could

Wade Watts would approve

I have enjoyed this game (more than I expected). I wish I could continue from the parts I lost without losing progress.

Amazing project which reminds me my old Atari 2600. The controls work well as expected and I love the minimalist aesthetic. I would like to know which engine you used creating your game?

Godot

Thank you for your answer. I just understand that you are Terry Cavanagh. I know your games. A few years ago I made something like SuperHexagon. Take a look at this project. I wish you the best ++

Great and fun nostalgic feeling!

At some point, I thought the levels were proc-gen, which would be so cool for this game.

The start button of Dualsense causes a life loss, by the way, is it a bug?

Lovely game. Is there any way to install it on a Chromebook (with the llinux subsystem enabled?) I couldn't figure it out.. Many thanks

Figured it out - in case any one else wonders, download the Itch.io app for Linux from here: https://itch.io/app then you can log in and install the app directly

Bro,

This is AMAZING. Bravo.
My love for this might be heavily related to having had Atari as my 1st console.

Would love to know which games are inspirations for this
- Pitfall?
- Montezuma's Revenge?

Would love to hear an interview/podcast of you explaining the game and its details. I need more of this!

★★★★★
A top-notch game.

PS. Hey, I took a look at your profile and saw 'GRAB THEM BY THE EYES', kudos for that classic mate.

Very cool, and very accurate to the Atari 2600

Fun game! Very nostalgic.

you are a great man terry

Great game. Had a lot of fun!

this game is simple but horror

why?

at the end of the game all the object's are grey and the background is black

(+2)

this is really cool! very pitfall, extremely so eve

Surprisingly deep for a funny little Atari-esque platformer game when you read between the lines. Absolutely loved this!

(+1)

Good. But game crashed at the one of ladder levels =(

hey hey - did this happen as you finished the level, or during it? I'm trying to track this down, but I can't replicate it, so please be as verbose as possible!

It happened when I've finished the level. After screen comes to greyscale and before level selection.

great, thank you!

(+1)

I've played four levels and crashed twice already. If you want to throw out a version with logging or something, I'd be happy to try to crash some more and send some logs.

Fantastic! very fun

I was recommended by a certain crustacean named Steve. So far, it's really fun. I kinda hope for a port on an actual Atari. Most likely 7800 though.
